Stretching the Season

Golf season is coming to an end, although you wouldn't be able to tell in our house. Erik has been stretching it out as long as possible. Here is a look at what golf season means to me:

Cabo San Lucas: Part 2

More fun in Cabo!

Erik went golfing at the Cabo San Lucas Country Club. He said it was pretty nice but it smelled like a sewer. Yuck! By the way...this was a practice shot. I promise you he did not miss the ball. :)

I went snorkeling with Mom & Dad at Pelican Rock. It was awesome! The visibility wasn't that great but we didn't have to look far to see crabs and huge schools of fish.
Erik got scuba certified in July and went on his third and fourth dives in Cabo (first two were in the Dominican Republic the month before). He saw tons of fish, a couple of eels, starfish, and even a sea horse.
Then it was more fun at the pool and dinner at Las Quesadillas.

It was a great couple of days and there was still more to come. Are you tired yet? :)

Cabo San Lucas - Part 1

This past August, Erik and I went to Cabo San Lucas with his family for a week. It was so much fun! Here are some highlights from the first two days.

The sunsets were beautiful and the scenery at the Sky Pool couldn't have been better.

Our first day was spent playing beach volleyball, football and hanging out at the pool.

Almost every night, we went down to the marina for dinner and Erik was constantly asked if he wanted any "nose candy". He said 'no' to everyone but did opt for a picture with the "lizard man".

On our second day, we went to the main beach area and went parasailing.

I've been parasailing a few times but this was Erik's first. He had a lot of fun and was glad we got it for free (by listening to a timeshare presentation).

Khloe's 1st Boating Experience

Yesterday we went boating at East Lake with a few of our friends and this time Khloe got to come with us. To ease my nerves of her accidentally drowning, we stopped at Petsmart and bought her a life jacket. It was the cutest thing ever! At first she thought she was completely immobile but once she realized she could move normally, she didn't mind it.

Khloe loved feeling the wind in her hair from every direction. She looked very content. That is....until we threw her in the water. Take a look at this:

She was absolutely terrified. Just look at her eyes. We threw her in twice so I could video and take a few pictures. I know she's just a dog, but you could see the fear in her eyes. It was hilarious. She was so mad at Erik afterwards that she wouldn't even eat a Dorito. :)

We were only out for a couple of hours but it was a lot of fun. Thanks Koo for taking us out on the lake. We had a blast!

Priorities

As I was reading this months issue of the Ensign today, I came across a very interesting tidbit of information in the 'World Briefs' section.

Temple Square was recently recognized by Forbes magazine as the 16th most-visited attraction in America, ahead of Universal Studios Hollywood in California.

That is incredible! I started thinking...Universal Studios charges $70 for a day pass. What does the church charge? Nothing. I guess it goes to show that people would rather entertain their heart, soul and intellect over their temporal need for excitement.

Is Summer Really Over?

Even though there is a "fall" wreath on our door and Erik is fully enjoying football season, we are in total denial that summer is finally over. We BBQ every chance we get and last week we went on another hike. On Thursday, we drove up to Kaysville and hiked through Adams Canyon.

It was a new hike for both of us and the scenery was amazing. Parts of the hike were steep and very rocky and we quickly realized how out of shape we are. Khloe spent the way up in her doggy backpack but on the way back, she walked the whole way. I was nervous about her navigating through some of the rocky areas but her little paws got down much easier than we did.

After about an hour of hiking through the canyon, we reached a gorgeous 40 foot waterfall. It was a wonderful way to spend our afternoon.

My appreciation for what Utah has to offer continues to grow year after year. Hopefully next summer we can go on many more hikes and even venture out on our first camping trip together.

The Journey of Labor Day

Labor Day made quite a journey. It didn't get off to a very good start but thankfully redeemed itself by the end of the day. Erik came home from working and the garage door completely caved in. I shouldn't have been surprised because it seems like everything in our house is breaking.

A few hours later, we left the three dogs (we're dog sitting Baylee and Zoey)...

...and went on a quick hike up to Donut Falls. It was an easy, 20 minute hike up to the falls despite me carrying my giant SLR camera and Erik lugging the big lens and tripod so we could get some great water pictures. There were atleast 40 people up at the falls so I wasn't able to get any wide shots but I did manage to take some shots of the smaller areas.

As we hiked back down to our car, we saw a moose! We got about 20 yards away from it and watched it eat for a few minutes. I tried to take a good picture, but it kept moving and they came out really blurry. You get the idea though.

After our hike, we drove up to Erik's aunt and uncle's cabin for dinner. Uncle Russell had created a zipline between the trees which entertained us for a while.

We had a wonderful dinner, fun on the zipline and ended by gorging ourselves with s'mores.

The night wasn't over yet though! We drove home and finished up our night hanging out with friends in our townhouse complex. I'm sure glad Labor Day ended better than it started.

The Meaning of "Fall"

What does September mean in the Olafsson household? The beginning of football! Erik has been so excited for football season he can hardly contain himself. :) He's playing in 3...yes 3...fantasy football leagues this year which I know will keep him busy. Seeing Erik so happy with anticipation rubs off on me each year, although it soon goes away. Football every Saturday, Sunday, Monday and sometimes Thursday? One maybe two days a week is plenty in my mind.

Thursday was the University of Utah's first football game. We are in the "MUSS" (Mighty Utah Student Section) again this year and I'm happy to report that the t-shirts actually fit well. Thanks Under Armor! Anyway, besides the great shirts, warm summer/fall weather, free food at the MUSS Tailgate Party and our new stadium seats from Wal-Mart, I also am excited for football season.

The Utes beat the Aggies 35 - 17, which gives them a 15 game win streak (the longest in the nation). Erik realized the other day that both times my parents have been on missions, Utah goes undefeated (2004 and 2008). My parents are coming home in 2 months so we're hoping they'll still be able to go all the way.

To our neighbors: if you hear any loud cheering or screaming coming from our house, just ignore it. It must be Saturday, Sunday, Monday or maybe even Thursday.

Travel Junkies

Erik and I have had a very busy summer this year. It started off with New York in June for the U.S. Open. Next was to the Dominican Republic in July, which was our first big trip with out family. A few days after that I flew to Seattle for my friend's wedding and most recently, we were in Cabo San Lucas with Erik's family last week. We are so blessed to be able to travel so much but the only problem is that I have hundreds of photos to edit. Hopefully I'll get some pictures posted soon; that is unless we leave on another vacation. ;)

Parents Come Home In......

82 days! I just received notice that my parent's will be coming home from their mission on November 5th at 8:10 pm. I can't wait!!!!!

Happy Belated 6th Wedding Anniversary!

Sunday was our 6th wedding anniversary...can you believe it?! Time sure flies by when you're having fun. I just wanted to publicly thank Erik for all of the wonderful years we have had together. I love him so much and am grateful everyday to have him in my life. He is such an amazing husband and I can't wait for all of the incredible memories we will create together in the years to come.


Almost 7 years ago, Erik and I were dating and I declared our "song" to be "When I See You Smile" by Uncle Sam. There are two versions, one slow version and one rock version....both of them are equally great. I don't know if Erik even likes this song, but I love it! :)

Here we are at our reception in Seattle, dancing to our song for the first time. I will never forget those few minutes we danced together as husband and wife.


Erik, you are my everthing! I don't know what I would do without you. You mean the world to me and I am so blessed to have such a wonderful husband. Cheers to our 6th anniversary and to the never-ending wedding anniversaries to come. I love you honey!

Summer = Golf

As you all know, Erik loves to golf. For the past few years he has played on the Bonneville Men's Team with some of his friends. Khloe and I tag along for the sun/exercise about once a week. After about 6 holes I'm ready to leave, but Khloe absolutely loves it. I think Erik's friends even enjoy the additional entertainment.



When we approach the golf course Khloe freaks out and starts wimpering and running across our laps. Somehow, she knows we have arrived. After the first couple of holes, I let her off the leash so she can run around. She's really good about staying close and anytime someone is about to hit their ball, I tell her to come and stay. A couple of weeks ago when she was off her leash she started to chase a deer, which made me really nervous. It was only about 20 yards away; I about had a heart attack. Thankfully she stopped and didn't get too close.

After I get tired of walking, we put Khloe on the leash and let her run beside the cart. She runs as fast as she can...it's so cute.

By the end of the round, she is totally worn out...as am I. It's been a great activity for us to do as a family and I'm so glad Erik has the opportunity to do something he loves so often.
